Pakistani Drama "Baaghi" Review

  

Baaghi means Rebel. Baaghi drama serial aired on Urdu 1 channel on july 27th of 2017. It is a biographical based drama. It is based on famous and controversial Pakistani figure Qandeel Baloch. Qandeel Baloch was murdered by her bother in the name of honor in july 2016. The OST/Title song of this drama is also very famous.

Umera Ahmed is the great writer of Pakistan; the screenplay of this drama has been done by Umera Ahmed. Saba Qamar is playing the character of Qandeel/Fauzia in this drama. She is outstanding and amazing actress and always play wonderful role.

This Baaghi drama is the most watched and popular drama in Pakistan being viewed on YouTube. This drama has also been the limelight of controversies as expected. 

Story Line:

Fauzia Batool is a beautiful young girl who lived with her parents in a village. Fauzia's elder sister Nazia is a married woman and constantly beaten by her husband. Fauzia disliked his brother-in-law for beating his sister and always told her sister to get up for herself and not let her husband hit her. Fauzia often gets punished by her mother because she is outspoken and rebellious. Fauzia's sister-in-law is a manipulative woman.  Fauzia's sister-in-law's brother falls in love with Fauzia. They propose the marriage of Fauzia and Sajid who is the brother of Fauzia' sister-in-law. Fauzia rejects first because he is a lazy and jobless person. She always dreams of being independent and famous. But her dream is ruined by this marriage. Fauzia should marry Sajid to keep her parents' reputation. But Fauzia falls in love with Abid who is the owner of a cosmetic shop. Abid sends his proposal through his mother but Fauzia's mother rejects. Her wedding day with Sajid, she escapes right before the ceremony. 

She goes to the Chaudhry house and asks help to tell his father to agree on the marriage of Fauzia and Abid. So, they got married. But soon Abid loses interest in Fauzia and they have a son.

Fauzia discovers that he is having an affair that leads to conflict between them. She wants to become a model. When the conflict increases, Abid throws her out of the house. 

Then she goes to Karachi to be a model and make a career. The company she works for send her to a beautician Gogi. Gogi gives her makeover and improve her English. Abid who marry Ruby and get legal custody of his child. This news makes Fauzia depressed. Now she wants to become a jobholder and wants to get his child custody back. She started uploading her videos on social media and have lot of fans as well as haters. 

Fauzia's father had an accident and lost his legs. Then she meets his parents after a long time. A man named Shehryar fell in love with Fauzia because of his nature. He proposed to her. She did not tell him about her marriage, divorce and child. She refuses him when she thinks herself as unworthy of his love. But after some time, she agreed to marry him. The sudden breaking news is shared on TV which reveals her real name and details about her past include her marriage. The TV channel showed an interview of her ex-husband who twisted the facts and blamed her for their divorce and told them she did not care for her infant child. This broke her heart. On the other hand, Sheheryar felt hurt.  When Fauzia tells the truth with her own mouth, Shehryar loves her more and respects her more. 

The media breaking her past story and her parent and brother find about her job and very angry on her because she told her family that she has job in a boutique. Her younger brother is drug addict and was mocked by his friend and by other that her sister brought shame for their family. When Fauzia comes home to tell their parents about Sheheryar's proposal, her brother drugs her and strangles her in her semi-conscious state. She makes frail attempts to free herself. She dies and her brother run away. The next day her younger sister hinds her dead body in the room. The news spreads like the wildfire and media break new of her death. Sheheryar who is numb with grief. Fauzia's brother arrested. Fauzia's father cried helplessly. 

A woman is shown visiting Fauzia's father and asks for his permission to make a documentary on Fauzia's life and he gives permission. In the last scene of this drama, Sheheryar sits on Fauzia's grave and recalls all good memories. 

Review:

I like this drama because it shows the struggle of one person who has no family support and respect and is always afraid of society when he wants to be independent and want to have own job over the boundaries. Society always says that they love honest people and hardworking people but in reality, society lies to us. Society is very cruel.  

The character of her husband and her brother and her parents are the common people who have no strength to fight with those people who hurt their child or have no strength to make their child's dream turned into reality. They fear society and they taught their child to be afraid of society. These types of people never succeed in their life. Most people who have dreams go to their grave without making these dreams into reality. The major reason behind this issue is our society. Society who tore our dream in pieces.

In the story of Qandeel, at least she tries to change her fate. She tries to achieve her dream and also supports her parents. She is very heart broken but she never loses hope. She takes steps to be successful in her job. And when she finds a true love and a true person who love and respect, she is murdered by her own brother. This is her cruel fate. I recommend you to watch this series/ drama.
